The bARABOO HILLS
Ancient Rock, Relentless Climbs
ABOUT THIS REGION
Ancient Rock, Relentless Climbs
The Baraboo Hills rise sharply, exposing some of the oldest rock formations in North America. These quartzite ridges resisted glaciation, leaving a rugged landscape of steep hills, narrow valleys, and wooded escarpments that stand apart from surrounding terrain.
Spanning Sauk and Columbia counties, this region delivers some of the state’s most demanding gravel riding. Routes climb repeatedly along ridgelines, descend into tight valleys, and pass through forest, farmland, and protected natural areas. With Devil’s Lake, the Wisconsin River, and nearby small towns, the Baraboo Hills offer rewarding rides with dramatic scenery and a wild feel close to population centers.
